Gov. Justice receives top-to-bottom report on DHHR
Gov. Justice announced Thursday that he has received the organizational review of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources conducted by the McChrystal Group LLC, of Alexandria, VA.

In March 2022, Gov. Justice vetoed HB 4020, which would have split the DHHR into two different agencies. At the Governor’s direction, the McChrystal Group was hired to complete a top-to-bottom review of DHHR to identify its issues, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies. Consultants with the McChrystal Group spent the last few months embedded, physically and virtually, in DHHR and spent hundreds of hours with various department staff.

Governor announces Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant Award
Gov. Justice announced Thursday that $285,404 was awarded to the West Virginia State Police from the Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program. These funds will be used to improve and advance the forensic science services of the West Virginia State Police Forensic Lab through education and training.

West Virginia Guard to provide aerial firefighting support to Fayette County
On Thursday, the West Virginia National Guard’s C. Co., 1-150th Assault Battalion, located in Wheeling, launched one UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter with hoist capability to Fayette County to assist local authorities in aerial firefighting.
 
The crew of five Soldiers departed at approximately 9 a.m. and flew to Fayette County to link up with emergency managers and on-scene authorities. The 1-150th Assault Battalion crew have undergone extensive training in Bambi bucket operations over the past few years and completed their refresher training this past summer.

West Virginia Emerging Artists Juried Exhibition to open with awards ceremony, Nov. 13
The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History will unveil the 2022 West Virginia Emerging Artists Juried Exhibition in the Commissioner’s Gallery of the West Virginia State Museum at the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. The award winners also will be announced during the opening. The exhibition is free and open to the public. This year’s exhibition features 58 creative pieces representing the talents of 44 West Virginia artists from 19 counties.
