On Friday, Gov. Jim Justice traveled to East Hardy Early Middle School in Baker to present students and staff with a $50,000 check as winners in Round 3 of the “Do it for Babydog” vaccination sweepstakes.
The Governor brought along his pet English Bulldog and sweepstakes mascot, Babydog, and threw a party for the entire school to celebrate.

Gov. Justice announces completion of Lost River State Park cabin renovations, $151 million in upgrades across state parks system

On Friday Gov. Jim Justice announced more than $151 million in upgrades across the West Virginia State Parks system during a ceremony at Lost River State Park in Hardy County.
The more than $151 million in projects includes lodge renovations and expansions, cabin renovations, campsite development and infrastructure upgrades that have dramatically improved recreation at parks and forests around the state.
“I always love visiting our incredible state parks and I’m so proud of all the work we’ve done over the last five years” Gov. Justice said. “When I came into office, I said we were going to make our state parks and forests world-class destinations and here we are today. It’s truly incredible to see how far our state parks and forests have come.”

Annual Joyful Night Celebration takes place virtually

On Thursday, the annual Joyful Night Celebration was held virtually and featured the lighting of the state Christmas tree by Governor and First Lady Justice.
This year’s tree, displayed on the Kanawha Boulevard side of the State Capitol, was furnished by the Buchanan family from Hansford.
The Governor and First Lady also took part in the traditional reading of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas". The program also featured musical performances by the Baileysville K8 School and the Cabell Midland High School Marching Knights.

During Thursday's briefing, Gov. Justice discussed how impending cold weather will increase the importance of being vaccinated and receiving a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Because cold weather often forces people to spend more time indoors, specifically during the busy holiday season, the state is likely to continue experiencing an increase in COVID-19 case numbers. This increase will place an even greater strain on hospitals and ICU units across West Virginia.
"There can't be anything more important in your life right now than getting the booster shot," said Gov. Justice. "What in the world are you waiting for? Absolutely without any question you need to get your booster shot now."

Gov. Jim Justice announced on Wednesday the winners of 127 prizes through his Do it for Babydog: Round 3 vaccination sweepstakes.
Maddalynn Paris of Weirton has won this week’s individual grand prize of a $50,000 Educational Savings Fund.
An additional 25 young West Virginians have each won a prize of a $10,000 Educational Savings Fund. All Educational Savings Fund prizes will be in the form of a 529 plan, managed by the State Treasurer’s Office, which will be invested and grow over time. The fund can be used for any educational-related expenses, not just higher education.

Gov. Jim Justice announced on Tuesday that he has awarded $3,999,933 in Victims of Crime Act Assistance (VOCA) sub-grant funds to 84 public and private non-profit agencies throughout the state.
“Helping victims of violent crime is something we need to do in every way we possibly can,” Gov. Justice said. “The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a rise in the number of West Virginians using our nonprofit agencies for assistance. That’s why I advocated for this funding from our Legislature, because every single dollar helps someone in need."

Gov. Jim Justice issued two proclamations, declaring Christmas Eve (Friday, Dec. 24, 2021) and New Year’s Eve (Friday, Dec. 31, 2021) as full-day state holidays for public employees.
The Governor also declared Thursday, Dec. 23 and Thursday, Dec. 30 as half-day state holidays.

During Tuesday’s briefing, Gov. Justice announced that senior citizens who have been fully vaccinated and who choose to receive their booster shot during one of several upcoming COVID-19 Booster shot clinics at Senior Centers across the state will be eligible to receive a $50 prepaid visa gift card as an additional incentive to continue protecting themselves from COVID-19.
Also, four senior centers across the state with the highest overall vaccination rates will also win a $100,000 grand prize through the vaccination sweepstakes and receive a visit from the Governor and Babydog.
"I'm sure that this time of year that money could really come in handy," said Gov. Justice. "We want more and more people across the finish line. We will be hosting clinics all across our state to help get as many people vaccinated and boosted as possible."

On Tuesday, Gov. Jim Justice joined several officials to announce the launch of a new student-powered Opioid and Substance Misuse Prevention Program.
The program is the first of its kind and results from a service agreement between West Virginia Game Changers and the world-renowned Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.
Game Changers is a student-powered, substance misuse prevention movement connecting West Virginia students and the educators who care about them through a coordinated, comprehensive prevention education program.

Gov. Jim Justice announced on Monday that the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) third annual Hunting & Fishing License Giveaway is officially open.
Anyone who purchases an annual 2022 hunting, trapping, or fishing license in the month of December will automatically be entered to win one of several prizes, including the grand prize of a combination hunting, trapping and fishing lifetime license for a WV resident.

Jim Justice issued two proclamations, ordering that all United States and West Virginia flags on all State-owned facilities be displayed at half-staff immediately until sunset on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, in honor of the life and legacy of Senator Bob Dole and in solemn commemoration of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
