The Office of Early & Elementary Learning supports and implement a pre-k through fifth-grade system of support that:
  • Advances a unified commitment to excellence and equity in early learning education;
  • Establishes strong foundations for early learning from school readiness through fifth grade;
  • Supports programs to help close the literacy achievement gap by 3rd grade; and
  • Ensures all children are on target to achieve career and college readiness​
West Virginia School Readiness. School readi​​ness is a comprehensive approach for families, schools and communities to work together to provide all children opportunities to succeed and become lifelong learners.

Student Resources and Support​​
Initiative's and programs under one umbrella to coordinate services for the whole child and ensures each student has at least one caring adult that keeps them connected to the school system
Communities in Schools surrounds students with a community of support by bringing resources and support inside the school and empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.   
This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly those who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools.
In response to the Opioid Epidemic, the WV Department of Education will support and collaborate with local education agencies, schools, communities, and families to address the physical, social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs of our students Training and Technical Assistance for Educators

In partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture, West Virginia Department of Education​ administers federal school nutrition programs – which include:

Educator Resources and Support
TeachWV offers support to current and prospective educators as they navigate licensure pathways and become leaders within our state’s public school systems 
Designed to address West Virginia's critical teacher shortage, Grow Your Own Pathway to Teaching programs provide promising high school students a career path to pursue a career in education
Educator Development and Support Services supports a network for professional learning by offering multiple pathways for county leaders to provide continual professional growth for teachers
Leadership support provides support and technical assistance to schools and districts with strategic planning, shared leadership practices, and building strong instructional teams

Technical and Adult Education​​
The Governor’s Workforce Credential (GWC) signifies a student’s knowledge of business processes within a Simulated Workplace environment
Simulated Workplace provide students an engaging and relevant curriculum with opportunities to earn industrial state and national certifications
Advanced Career Education (ACE) offers credentials, certifications, and licenses in growing industries across the state
