Statement on Title IX

CHARLESTON, WV – Today, the U.S. Department of Education sent a “Dear Colleague” letter to K-12 schools and institutions of higher education advising educators and administrators that the department will not enforce the Biden Administration’s 2024 Title IX rewrite, and instead enforce the Trump Administration’s 2020 Title IX Rule on the basis of biological sex in schools and on campuses.

The letter comes after Republican Attorneys General, including Morrisey when he was the Attorney General for West Virginia, successfully challenged the Biden administration’s rewrite.

Governor Morrisey had this to say:

“When the woke virus infected the Biden administration’s Department of Education, I took them to court and successfully challenged their rewrite of Title IX, which was an appalling slight to women and girls. I’m excited to see the Trump administration following through on their promise to protect their right to safe and separate facilities in schools, along with activities that are separated by biological sex.”
