Governor Patrick Morrisey Orders Flags Lowered to Honor the Memory of Charlie Kirk

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – To honor the life and memory of Charlie Kirk, Governor Patrick Morrisey has ordered flags lowered to half mast at all state facilities beginning at Noon on September 12, 2025, and to remain there until sunset on the day of interment.

“I just heard the terrible news about Charlie Kirk,” said Governor Morrisey upon learning of his death. “He was a fighter, a conservative warrior, and a friend. Please join Denise and I in praying for Charlie’s family and friends.”

Charlie Kirk was born on October 14, 1993, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. At the age of 18, he co-founded Turning Point USA, a youth organization built on conservative principles and outreach to young people especially on college campuses. Kirk grew to be a widely known and influential media figure, the host of the “Charlie Kirk Show,” a regular presence of numerous conservative media outlets, and the author of several books. He was known for his willingness to engage in thoughtful and civil debate – especially on college campuses throughout the country. On September 10, 2025, Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
