Governor Patrick Morrisey Issues Statement on the Passage of Microgrids Legislation

Charleston, W.Va. – Today, the West Virginia Legislature passed HB 2014, the Power Generation and Consumption Act. In response, Governor Patrick Morrisey released the following statement:

“Today, the Legislature passed the Microgrids bill, my landmark policy proposal for the 2025 Legislative Session. This bill will dramatically increase West Virginia’s ability to play a major role in data economic development projects, improve our standard of living, and help reduce our income tax.

“While West Virginia has so many great assets, one of our biggest challenges is keeping our energy resources close to home and building out the job and revenue base that’s needed to help lift up our people. When you view today’s success, in tandem with other initiatives accomplished this session, such as permitting reform; licensing reciprocity; and efforts to build out vocational-technical training; West Virginia is now in a class of its own to attract new data centers and information technology companies.

“This is the economic development bill of the session, and I applaud the Legislature for acting on it. I hope they will continue to support my efforts to cut red tape, grow economically, and win our economic Backyard Brawl against all the states we touch.”
