CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Governor Patrick Morrisey today ordered United States and West Virginia flags at the State Capitol Complex and all state facilities in Logan County to be lowered to half-staff on Friday, October 30, in honor of Logan County Sheriff's Deputy Caden R. Mullins, who died in the line of duty on October 24, 2026.
"Deputy Mullins dedicated his life to protecting and serving his community, and his loss is heartbreaking for his family, his fellow law enforcement officers, and all of West Virginia," said Governor Morrisey. "Denise and I extend our deepest condolences to his wife Courtney, his children, and everyone who knew and loved him. We will always be grateful for his service and sacrifice."
A Logan County native and 2022 graduate of Man High School, Deputy Mullins began his law enforcement career with the Charleston Police Department before joining the Logan County Sheriff's Office in August 2025 to serve closer to home. He also served as a part-time officer with the Town of Man Police Department.
Flags will be lowered beginning at sunrise on Friday, October 30, and remain at half-staff until sunrise on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
