Gov. Morrisey Signs HB 4965 to Expand Patient Choice

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Governor Patrick Morrisey today released the following statement after signing HB 4965, a measure designed to give PEIA members greater flexibility in their healthcare:

“Today, I signed HB 4965 to ensure that patients in West Virginia have more flexibility and control over their care.

“This legislation is rooted in a simple principle: if a treatment has already been approved, patients should be able to pursue a medically appropriate alternative without being forced to start the process over again – especially when it does not cost more.

“We owe it to our people to make sure the system puts patients first.

“HB 4965 allows PEIA members who have already received prior authorization for treatment to pursue an alternative, medically appropriate option for the same condition without additional prior authorization, so long as the cost does not exceed the original approval.

“This is about common sense, compassion, and trusting patients and their doctors to make the best decisions for their care. In West Virginia, we will continue working to ensure our healthcare system puts people first.”
