CARES Act Funding Allocation

Gov. Justice has announced the following CARES Act allocation from the $1.25 billion in discretionary funds appropriated to the state by Congress:
  • $150 million: West Virginia CARES Act Small Business Grant Program
  • $50 million: DOH projects improving access to medical facilities
  • $50 million: Broadband development
  • $200 million: Local governments (counties and municipalities)
  • $10 million: Hospital support
  • $25 million: Local public service districts 
  • $21 million: Reimbursing the Governor’s Contingency Fund (PPE)
  • $57 million: State COVID-19 expense reimbursement and State agency COVID-19-related expenses
  • $637 million: Workforce West Virginia 2020 – 2021
  • $50 million: Fund for additional PPE and testing
Total: $1.25 billion

Up-to-date disbursement data for the $200 million in CARES Act funding to counties and municipalities is available on the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office COVID-19 transparency website​, under the section titled: Pending CARES Act Grant Payments to Local Governments. 

Over a billion dollars in other non-discretionary grants have also been received by West Virginia that are earmarked for specific uses. These grants are also available on the WVSAO’s COVID-19 transparency website, under the section titled: CARES Act and Other Federal Assistance Provided to the State of West Virginia.
