After Gov. Justice called a Special Session earlier this week, both the House and Senate adjourned, having passed 33 pieces of legislation, many of which are currently awaiting the Governor's signature.
Governor Justice shared his thoughts on some of the finalized legislation, which included the following:
- Increased salaries for our Correctional Officers.
- Clarified personal property tax cut.
- $150 million for highway maintenance and equipment.
- $12 million to provide much-needed funding to local fire departments. (This is in addition to the previously appropriated $10 million for EMS providers.)
- $4 million to the West Virginia Division of Forestry for wildfire firefighting equipment.
- $45 million to Marshall University for expanding their cybersecurity program, as they are on track to become a national leader in cybersecurity.
- $25 million to construct a new instructional facility and hangar for Pierpont's aviation program.
- $3 million to the WV National Guard for the Mountaineer Challenge Academy and other related initiatives.
- $1 million to the WV State Police for Academy upgrades.
