Gov. Jim Justice announced Thursday that West Virginia’s General Revenue collections for August 2022 of $507 million were $141.8 million above estimates and 32.2% ahead of prior year receipts.
“I once again plead with the State Senate to give our hard working West Virginians an immediate and permanent 10% cut of the personal income tax,” Gov Justice said. “These surpluses are the taxpayers' dollars, and should be returned to them in the most efficient and fastest way possible."

Gov. Justice held an event Thursday in Union, WV to present the Monroe County Commission with a check for $5 million to be used to renovate their courthouse. The courthouse, built in 1881, has been closed for more than three years due to water seeping into the top of the building causing mold and deterioration. In the meantime, court proceedings have been held in the basement of the Union Fire Department. Monroe County is the only county in the state without a functional courtroom.

On Tuesday, Gov. Justice joined GreenPower Motor Company representatives and other officials to welcome the company. GreenPower Motors is the leading manufacturer and distributor of zero-emission, electric-powered, medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
The new facility in South Charleston is expected to produce up to 150 electric school buses per quarter by next year and they are expected to bring approximately 200 new clean-energy jobs to the state within the next year.

Gov. Justice announced Wednesday that Pure Watercraft, the leading direct-to-consumer provider of high-performance electric boats, has executed an agreement with the State of West Virginia to manufacture its electric pontoon boats in Beech Bottom, West Virginia. Pure Watercraft expects to invest at least $5m in the plant, and create over 100 full-time jobs in the Northern Panhandle region by the end of 2025.

Gov. Justice and First Lady Cathy Justice issued a statement Friday after learning of the death of a coal miner in Kanawha County. Kristofer L. Ball, of Hart, WV, was fatally injured Thursday evening at Blackhawk Mining’s Coalburg Tunnel Mine, located in Kanawha County. Ball was 34 years old.

On Thursday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention endorsed the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations for use of the updated COVID-19 Omicron booster for individuals 12 and older. Shipments of the Omicron boosters are being received in West Virginia and residents will be able to obtain them in pharmacies and their local health departments as soon as they receive them.

he West Virginia Division of Highways will hold a Public Informational Workshop for the Corridor H Parsons to Davis Project from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2022, at the Blackwater Falls State Park Conference Room, in Davis. The project involves the construction of an approximately 10-mile new location, four-lane, divided highway, with partial control of access, and will be a component of Appalachian Highway Corridor H (US 48).

Replacement of a weight-restricted Mason County bridge is among 15 construction contracts awarded by the West Virginia Division of Highways on Tuesday, Aug. 23, and Friday, Aug. 26.
A contract to replace the Capehart Bridge was awarded to R.K. Construction Inc., with a low bid of $1,732,069. The project will be paid for with funding from Gov. Justice’s Roads to Prosperity program.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation won a Regional America’s Transportation Award at the Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials 2022 annual meeting in Biloxi, Mississippi. West Virginia was one of seven states to receive an ATA award.
The WVDOT received the award for Operations Excellence for the Oakwood Road RCUT project, which opened to traffic in late summer of 2021.
