2021 West Virginia Inauguration Ceremony

CHARLESTON, WV – The 2021 West Virginia Gubernatorial and Constitutional Officer Inauguration Ceremony was held Friday afternoon on the North Side of the State Capitol Building in Charleston.

The ceremony included the swearing in of Governor Jim Justice, Secretary of State Mac Warner, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, State Treasurer Riley Moore, State Auditor John B. McCuskey, and Commissioner of Agriculture Kent Leonhardt, along with Justice Tim Armstead, Justice John Hutchison, and Justice William Wooten of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. All Oaths of Office were administered by Chief Justice Evan Jenkins.

After taking his Oath of Office and being sworn in, Gov. Justice delivered his Inaugural Address, in which he discussed the accomplishments and progress made in West Virginia during his first term in office, and previewed goals for his second term; including how he intends to continue the State’s nationally-recognized progress recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony also included a tribute to the victims of the pandemic in West Virginia and across the nation. Remarks were made by members of the Governor’s Pandemic Response Leadership Team, including West Virginia COVID-19 Czar Dr. Clay Marsh, Director of the West Virginia Joint Interagency Task Force Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Jim Hoyer, West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Secretary Bill Crouch, and West Virginia State Health Officer Dr. Ayne Amjad.

Attendees also included representatives from the U.S. Senate including Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, U.S. House of Representatives including Rep. David McKinley and Rep. Carol Miller, leaders and members of the West Virginia State Senate, leaders and members of the West Virginia House of Delegates, Governor’s Office staff, Executive Branch Cabinet Secretaries and department leaders, the West Virginia State Board of Education, and other honored guests.
