CHARLESTON, WV – Gov. Jim Justice and First Lady Cathy Justice each stopped by elementary schools in southern West Virginia today to read to classrooms full of young students as a part of Let’s Read West Virginia Day, which celebrates literacy and the joy of reading.
Gov. Justice met with a class of fourth grade students at Pineville Elementary School in Wyoming County in the morning and read When I Was Young in the Mountains, a story about a young girl growing up in the Appalachian region. The governor went on to talk to the students about the importance of getting a good education and encouraged them to grow up to make a difference in West Virginia. Before leaving, Gov. Justice also took photos with the students.
Later in the day, First Lady Justice visited a class of second grade students at Lewisburg Elementary School in Greenbrier County. The First Lady read a book she selected from the school library, titled Outside the Window. The particular version of the book that she selected to read had been signed by the author, who is from West Virginia.
This marks the second year of celebrating Let's Read West Virginia Day. The West Virginia Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals launched the program in 2018.
