CHARLESTON, WV – Gov. Jim Justice participated in a meeting this morning in Washington, D.C., with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The meeting explored ways that the State of West Virginia and Qatar can work together to create economic partnerships that will benefit both the state of West Virginia and Qatar.
Governor Justice was invited to meet with Emir Al Thani and his top ministers as part of the Emir's visit this week to the United States. In addition to the Governor, those also present were Mike Hall, the Governor’s Chief of Staff; West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner; and Senator Joe Manchin, who attended briefly. Senator Shelley Moore Capito was attending a Senate floor session and expressed regret she could not be in attendance, as she was attending to the business of the people.
Governor Justice said after the meeting, “I was honored to meet with the Emir and I am excited about the future economic possibilities. We agreed that he and members of his staff would visit West Virginia in the very near future to look at possible infrastructure, airport, hospitality, and military-related opportunities for investment. We will be working together exploring investment opportunities in West Virginia during those visits.”
