CHARLESTON, WV – Gov. Jim Justice has appointed Joshua D. Spence as Chief Technology Officer for the State of West Virginia. He fills the position created by the retirement of John D. Dunlap.
Spence has served as the state’s Chief Information Security Officer since 2015. He holds a master’s degree in Information Technology Management from Marshall University. He also holds a number of industry certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Ethical Hacker, Certified Incident Handler, Certified EC-Council Instructor and Security+.
In addition to his role as Chief Technology Officer, Spence will maintain his position as a drill status guardsman with the West Virginia Air National Guard as a Cyber Operations Officer. Prior to his appointment as the State Chief Information Security Officer, Spence served as the Cybersecurity Manager for the West Virginia Air National Guard, 130th Airlift Wing.
The appointment is effective immediately.
