Gov. Justice Announces Transportation Alternatives Grant Awards in Brooke County

CHARLESTON, WV - Today, Gov. Jim Justice awarded two Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails program grants. The West Virginia Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Program is administered by the West Virginia Department of Transportation and funded by the Federal Highway Administration. These grants help towns and cities build and improve sidewalks, lighting, and rail trails. 

The projects awarded include:
  • City of Weirton: Park Drive Enhancement Project is being recommended for $393,500 in federal funding. This is for construction of a new sidewalk within the Three Springs Business Park in Weirton. The total project cost is $491,875.
  • Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation: Panhandle Rail Trail Paving is being recommended for $16,000 in federal funding. This is for the design to improve the surface of the trail along US Bike Route 50. The total project cost is $20,000.

Gov. Justice will continue to award more Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Program grants over the coming weeks. ​
